Lapis Lazuli

Mined in Afghanistan since the 7th century B.C., it is one of the very few naturally occurring blues in nature. Valued from the beginning for its deep, rich shade of blue it was used for pigment in textiles and art, while the actual stones adorned coffins, murals, and even death masks (it was mixed with Egyptian blue and was used in King Tutankhamen’s death mask as well). Pyrite is the mineral that you see snaking through lapis lazuli.

Lapis Lazuli Tube Bead Necklace: Accented with Pyrite & Black Spinel

What is there to say? It’s lapis and it’s gorgeous. The pyrite beads serve as a wonderful accent to the pyrite that naturally snakes through Lapis Lazuli. The black spinel helps the lapis stand out even more. Black spinel is so shiny it is often mistaken for black diamond, while also being rather rare. Metaphysically it is also known for dispelling negativity and negative energy. So much going on in this piece.
